At Britannia Hair Company, we offer more expertise than most salons, simply because of our length of time in business. Pauline Houlihan, owner since 1999, has worked here for 30 years. Our other friendly stylists are Diane Phillips, Helen Makar and Janie Donnachie, and our nail specialist is Sylvia. Get to know them here:
After completing a 2-year cosmetology course at Blackburn College of Technology and Design, I worked at David Collingson Salon for 6 years. At that point, I embarked on a new life in Canada.
I have worked for many years at the same location under the Britannia Beauty Salon company name. In 1999, I bought the salon, renamed it Britannia Hair Company and have enjoyed success over the last 16 years.
I have, during the last few years, taken many courses and upgrades -- the most exciting being at Sassoon Salon in London UK. I strive to keep my regular clients current and excited about their hair and enjoy creating styles and colours for new clients during our free consultations.
My ultimate goal is to see a big smile on my client's face when they see the results of my work. My motto is “You are never too old to look fantastic!” My success is that I have retained many clients for my whole career. I consider them friends.
I have been styling hair since I left school; and still -- after all these years -- have the passion to try new styles.
I have been with Britannia Hair Company for more than 8 years now. I previously worked at Francesco's Hair Design in Chinook Center for more than 15 years and Kirish Coiffures for 7 years.
Now, I cannot imagine working anywhere else but Britannia Hair Company; nor can I imagine doing any other type of work. I love the atmosphere of a salon – meeting new people and constantly learning from my many clients. There is never a dull day in a salon! I hope to continue being a hair stylist for many more years.
I graduated from Lord Beaver Brook High School with my certificate. I then went to work for Roberto's, where I gained extensive training. In fact, after working there for 10 years, I became the owner of the salon.
After owning and operating Roberto’s for 15 years, I moved to Britannia Hair Company. I have been a stylist at Britannia for 8 years now, and I enjoy absolutely everything about my job.
In 1995, I attended Del Mar Hair College, where I received my journeyman’s certificate in hairstyling. I’ve been working ever since in the Calgary area and have had the opportunity to hairstyle at a few different salons.
It’s always been important for me to further my education, I do so by attending hair cutting and colour classes frequently. I regularly attend the ABA (Alberta Beauty Association), a 2-day conference held annually in Calgary, to pick up new ideas to share with my clientele.
In April of 2014, I made the decision to move to Britannia Hair Company. The transition of moving salons was seamless and I owe that in part to the great women I work with now.
